UW sees 7% decrease in annual enrollment of international students for 2025-26 academic year

According to an Oct. 30 release from UW News providing annual census data, international student enrollment decreased approximately 7% compared to the last academic year across all three UW campuses.

“There are 7,893 international students enrolled across the three campuses, an approximate 7% drop from last year,” the release read in part. “Of those, 7,439 are in Seattle, 258 are at UW Bothell and 197 are at UW Tacoma. The decline is similar to the trend seen across the country this year.”

UW Medicine resident arrested for ‘diverting’ controlled substances

UW Medicine resident physician Dr. Andrew Voegel-Podadera faces charges for fraudulently diverting fentanyl and other controlled substances from children and adult patients. Voegel-Podadera admitted to diverting medications dating back to January 2024 from UW Medical Center (UWMC), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Community vigil honors Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi one year after her death in West Bank

Over 250 community members gathered on the Quad Sunday evening in remembrance of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a UW graduate who was shot dead by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers in the West Bank on Sept. 6, 2024. The vigil marked one year since Eygi’s passing and highlighted her role as a student activist. Speeches also called on the United States government to formally initiate an independent investigation into Eygi’s death.
